2021 Cohort
2021 Cohort: LifeAgain wishes to reach out to more teenage mothers in 2021 in the Wa East and Wa West districts where high numbers of teenage pregnancy cases have been recorded over the years in the Upper West Region. We intend to select 30 teenage mothers from these two districts onto the program in 2021.
We plan to support ten (10) teenage mothers to enroll back to school, five (5) teenage mothers to learn tailoring, five (5) teenage mothers to learn weaving and train ten (10) teenage mothers in soap making (liquid soap, bar soap and powder soap) and providing them with the start-up capital to start their soap business.
The 10 teenage mothers we plan on supporting to go back to school will be given items such as uniforms, shoes, bag, exercise books and a monthly stipend to ensure they are comfortable in school. The 10 that will be enrolled into tailoring and weaving will have their admission forms and fees paid by LifeAgain and receive items such as sewing machines, uniform, weaving tools, chairs, scissors, tape measure among others. The final 10 who will be supported in soap making will receive free one-week soap making training. After the training, each of them will be given GHS 500 start-up capital to set their soap making business. Once they start the business, LifeAgain will organize entrepreneurship trainings on marketing, packaging, branding among others for them to enable them sustain the business.
Each of the 30 teenage mothers to be selected will be given a mentor who will guide, inspire and motivate them through their journey of career building. They will also receive sex education from experts who will enlighten them on safe sex and contraceptives use to ensure that subsequent unwanted pregnancies are avoided.
The objective of this project is to support vulnerable teenage mothers in the Wa East and Wa West districts to develop employable skills from which they can build careers from and become financially independent women.
A total of GHS 38, 390 ($6,665) is needed to undertake this project in 2021 to transform the lives of 30 teenage mothers and their families.
